I got two fobs with my /19 Heritage like everyone else, but I still worry about having the battery die when I'm out and about without going through the bypass process to start the bike and move on with my life.
Should the battery die while I'm out riding, can I just toss another one in and start up, or does the fob need to be reprogrammed in some manner?
The batteries are cheap. Should I keep an extra on the bike for emergencies?
If the fob battery dies, just put a new battery in and it will work fine. It is a good idea to carry a spare battery on the bike. I change all fob batteries on the same day I change the battery in my smoke and CO detectors.
My insurance and registration are sealed in a plastic sleeve. I also keep a spare CR2032 battery in there as well. Common battery used in optical dot sights as well.
Harley FOBs die as regularly as a retard's pet turtle. You need to know how to start with your code.
No matter how often you replace you batteries it is good to always have a spare (or 2).
If not for you a buddy having a bad day.
I also carried the directions to bypass the system.
As for battery failures, the most I had was two in one year.
