In my experience and when this was talked abt in another thread.....the life of a Key FOB is like 3-4 years as I understand it.

I would change it b4 the 3 yr mark. As earlier stated, no reprogramming needed.

You like have 2 FOBs. And typically have 1 u use regularly. I would suggest changing both at the same time.

I have a spare battery duct taped inside one of my bags. Also a spare fob battery is kept in my car glove box for the same reason.

Each January I swap fobs. The one I am putting into hibernation I replace with a new battery installed backwards to prevent drainage while it waits until the following January. The fob I put into service I simple flip the battery to bring it back to life. If a fob fails me I use the bypass code. I enter the bypass code a few times a year to make sure I can start the bike.

I just wait until the battery goes dead then use the code until I get to a store to buy a new battery.
