I'm glad you're ok! I hate it when idiots do that to me. A year or so ago a bike rider got rear ended on hwy 75 near me. Traffic came to a stop and a tailgater behind the bike did not. The bike was crushed between the two cars. The rider wound up on the hood and windshield of the tailgater, with a broken back.

When we were waiting for the police he was talking on the phone with someone, most likely his wife, who must have talked sense into him because he apologized and said sorry I hit you after that phone call and ran up admitting he was at fault when the cop pulled up behind me. Possibly a bit of road rage? Who knows. All I know is he put me in a dangerous situation without any thought to the possible outcomes of his actions or regard for my life. He'll pay for it. Definitely won't be gesturing at people to back off anymore. I'll just pull off and let them pass.

Thank you everyone for all of the well wishes. I'll be back on the road soon. It's a bit hard now though since my bike is my only transportation.... And I'm having bike withdrawals.
G'day mate,

That is 1 of the toughest things I had to swallow.

Don't **** off the cagers. Don't kick their car, give them the finger, etc....

'juss figure it is a losing proposition and the playing field is NOT NOT NOT even.

VERY hard for me to swallow. Over the years, I finally learned to expect stupidity on all levels. Expect (whish not) but be aware and expect dumb things to happen.

GLAD u r doing well.

GLAD the guy realized what he did was WRONG (even if possibly his wife had to drill it into him) and he apologized.

It just might save someone else's life somewhere down the road with this guy. Your bike will get fixed and he'll pay one way or the other, but I really hope he learns a valuable lesson from this. One that has nothing to do with the financial side of it.
Thank you and I hope the same for him out of all of this. I really hope he learned from this experience and will think twice before going into a rage or whatever it was that made him decide to follow me and end up hitting me whether it's with another motorcyclist or cager.

Only bigger issue didn’t surface till 15 months later. She apparently tore her shoulder rotator cuff in the impact, but it didn’t surface as a problem until she started swimming. Surgery fixed it, but too late to relate to the incident. You may feel fine, but get FULLY checked out.
Damn I'm glad she's OK and good thing that ambulance was passing at the time to witness it and call for another ambulance! Not too sure I handeled it too well but I refrained from beating on him so that's a good thing.

Haha thanks. No need for revenge here. I just hope he gets the ultimate message here and stops tailgating, especially bikes.

We need to change the whole culture around this kind of behavior like we have with drunk driving.
You know they did aske me if he seemed to be road raging and at the time I couldn't really tell from being shaken up and adrenaline pumping but I did tell them he followed me into the lane and wouldn't pass me when I got over. They cited him for careless driving. I thought about taking it further but I'm sure the DA has bigger fish to fry so I don't want to clog them up with this. The guy will pay and hopefully learn his lesson.

Wow! What a dumb-a**, So glad you're okay, there were so many ways this could have gone terribly wrong for you.

Glad you're OK... it could have been much worse.

While there are many idiots in cages that rile me when I'm out riding my motorcycles, I have to admit there are proportionally as many idiots I see riding motorcycles, when I'm driving in my cages....

An idiot is an idiot, is an idiot..... regardless of what they are doing.... There are many of them out there, and I'm pretty sure they could give a damn about what anybody else thinks of their actions...

I have a friend who always needs to give "idiots" a piece of his mind.... I try to educate him to the fact that if someone is acting/driving like an idiot, you are being foolish at best, to think that they will; 1) follow any "direction" you may give them about their actions, or 2) actually give a damn about what you think about their actions... Doing anything other than puling over and letting them pass (if necessary) is an excise in futility... and if you happen to "irritate" someone who is actually unhinged, you are putting your health at risk...

Agreed to both. Had I gone down I'm almost certain he would have run me over before he had the chance to react and hit the brakes. I'm just glad it went the way it did and I have the opportunity to learn from this. hattitude you're right about an idiot is an idiot is an idiot. That's one thing I'm definitely taking away from this because this guy obviously was or came unhinged after I gestured at him to back off and it was most definitely bad for my health...

I was run over by a driver high on opiates and alcohol a few years ago. She got away but about 10 other cars followed her on the phone with the police. I now carry a Colt Commander in a Galco shoulder rig under my gear. If I ever get hit again and they drive away and I can, I'm definitely going to be returning a force of equal lethality showing as much disregard for their life as they were with mine. Luckily she was insured, I bought my house with the settlement from that. After I got my bike fixed, replaced every bit of gear I was wearing, and all the medical bills they basically asked me how much I wanted to make me go away and we settled on a number. Some doctors will not examine people involved in accidents, find one that will and is well reviewed. Even in a crash that is minor if someone else's insurance will pay for it why not, it could prolong your life.

Um, you may want to get some training in use of lethal force ...... these actions, as described, will get you into serious trouble... FWIW..

I am a CCW permit holder, shoot IDPA and USPSA every season. My wife is a state police woman. We fly a black and blue flag at our house. Whenever I'm not sure about a scenario I'm feet away from asking, or we will call her Lt. In all honesty you are right, you should not fire at a fleeing threat. But carrying a gun is legal and using it doesn't mean you are in the wrong. In the CC world it comes down to scenario, intent, and what a reasonable person thinks of that intent. But i don't want to derail this thread with a CCW debate. It's just a practice I now susbcribe to after years of not on my bike after being hit one too many times.

Default Update

Just wanted to post an update on my bike since it's been about 6 weeks since the accident. Repairs are almost complete. It went from replacement of the rear fender and associated parts to an entire frame replacement. The frame got tweaked/twisted from the force of the impact. Should have my bike back before the weekend! I've been going insane without her!

These pics show the twist in the frame. This is with the new fender support struts and fender mounted to the old frame. As you will see the fender is not square with the left side is sitting higher than the right.

Just the struts without the fender.

Here are a few pics of the progress I snapped this weekend.

New Frame
