I stripped wires and made jumpers to the signal wire and ground. You need alligator clips for your signal generator to do it how I did. The video link below shows essentially how I did it. I just ran the frequency much higher. Make sure your voltage is 10-12 volts on your generator. God speed
Sorry for asking again just want to do it right. There is the red, black and white on the signal wire. The generator has a red and black alligator clips. Do you take the red to the white on the female and black to black female on bike. Then ground the red female to the frame?

No worries! Yes; The positive alligator clip will go to the white signal wire, and the black goes to the black ground wire on the harness. You should not need to run to the frame.
watch this video starting at about 40 seconds. at 1:04, he shows how to connect and run signal to the speedo.

Thanks for the help. It's working, when I had the red wire grounded to the bike it didn't work. Took it out and followed your directions it worked. So happy

BADA$$!!! I'm happy for you! Just make sure you keep your bike on a charger if you need to keep it on for a long time. God speed! Keep us posted!

I got my bikes odometer to roll forward but then it reset back to original mileage. Don't know what I did. But it's back to 2259.
I know this is an old thread, but I have a solution for a LOT of bikes. Will work on digital odometers at least up to 2009 (maybe later).
Scenario: You replace a gauge set with a used one, but the mileage on your replacement gauge odometer is too low. Harley will not program a used gauge in my state.
Solution: Use a $25 signal generator off of amazon. Put your bike on a battery charger, Disconnect the speed sensor, and connect the positive lead to the signal wire at the speed sensor harness (female side), connect the negative lead to the ground on the speed sensor harness (female side).
Set the signal generator to square wave, and set the frequency to 22,800 Hz (any higher and my gauge started resetting). Put your ignition to the "ON" and "Run" position. Start your signal generator. You will add mileage to your bike at around 900 mph. I was able to run the generator at 22,800, but no higher than that; photo shows one of my tests at 19,999 Hz
***This is not for mileage "rollback". You can only ADD miles with this method.
I know this is an old thread, but I come across it while looking into changing out the factory hd speedometer on my 2002 softail standard FXST. I ended up ordering a drag specialties speedo tach combo and was looking into adding the factory milage onto the new speedo when it gets here. I ordered the fuction tool on amazon and tried testing it on my factory hd speedo so I would know what to do when the new one gets here. It's adding mileage fine, I only did around 10 miles to test, for a total of 9714. The issue I have is once I turn the bike off and back on it reverts back to the previous mileage, 9704. Any clue what I'm doing wrong? The key is on and switched to run. Thanks
EDIT: I think I figured it out. I had to turn the hz waaaay down on my bike. Tried the 19999 like yours and it kept resetting like you mentioned. I had to go all the way down to 7999 before it would quit resetting when the ignition gets switched off.
