I posted this in the new members section, my bad. Just wondering if trading from a 2016 48 to a 2008 softail custom is a good idea in terms of comfort. I will take a hit on the trade I know and having a bike a decade old seems questionable to me. Any advice would be helpful. Asking price for the custom is around $10,500 but could possibly get them to let it go for less ( just a smidge over 5000 miles on the custom). Thanks
Depends on what you want. Having never rode a 48 or a custom, I can't vouch for the comfort factor. If the custom is anything like my 2010 heritage, I cant ask for anything else. Took a trip on it for a total of just under 1800 miles round trip over a weeks time and I didn't get tired of riding. As for it being 10 years old wouldn't bother me. Especially with it only having 5000 miles. That puppy's got a lot of life left in her.
A test ride is probably isnt likely. Here is my bike vs the custom. I know I can run the 48 into the ground, just thought it'd be easier with a more comfortable ride. Maybe I just need raise up my bars so I'm not so hunched over.
That seat on the FXSTC is one of the best seats Harley ever made. They have great lean angle, low center of gravity and your knees are in the breeze. One of the best Harley's ever made.
It's understandable since it's at a dealer but that price is about $2,000-3000 too high.
I bought one two years ago with a HD custom paint set for $8000, 8K on the clock. Buyers market out there.
Don't be worried about the age, that thing isn't even broke in yet. I'd check the date code on the tires though.
I agree with Dude the Custom is a great bike. Timeless styling. Comfort. Versatile. Excellent seat for passenger comfort. Throw a windshield on and bags and roll to Sturgis or strip it down and ride in style. Cut your best deal and don't look back....you have a nice Sporty but it won't be missed.
I am really happy with my 2008 Softail Custom. I bought it almost 2 years ago with 13k miles and now have 27k with not a single problem. Look it over and see what kind of shape it’s in, and if it looks good take it home.
Harley Dude and Wide Glider pretty much nailed it.
For what its worth, I traded my 09 Sportster 1200L for a 16 Deluxe I have not missed the Sportster, I put 17k on the 1200 over 7 years I have put over 20k on the Deluxe in a little over 2 years. On the stock seat.
The Custom would be a much more comfortable ride. I would haggle the price, JMHO Good luck with your decision. Happy New Year.
I got to sit on a softail custom today. Not the same exact bike (different bars, almost drag bars) but pretty much the same thing. Wow!!! It felt fantastic!!!! I thought it would stretch me out a little bit more but I think its much less of a streach than my 48. Jury's still out i guess. Thanks everyone
