That what I am confused about. Like we all say... IT IS A 5 gallon tank. Why is that my red light blinks and I only get maybe 3.5 gallons of gas back in it again? What else is it I could check? Float improperly positioned? etc...?
acceleration... makes it blink.. slow down and look, might go back to solid red.. but heh if it doesn't.. believe it.. it is low (cough, don't ask me how I know)
think of it as your reserve, when it starts to blink find a place to fill asap...
yeah, i have to say, i dont think ive ever got anywhere near 5 gallons in my tank!!! sure would be nice. maybe ill take a risk this time and see what i can get in there

thats what I'm thinking boone, you do it and let me know how it turns out...lol.
J/K, maybe I'll try it this weekend too and find out...
Guys, you might want to be careful trying to run out of fuel like that, the gas is used a a coolant for the pump and running it too long, too low could cause it to overheat and possablydamage it.
Run it out if you must for your testing, but be aware that you should be ready to shut it down as soon as the enginestarts tosputter ordies.
fuel it on the jiffy stand.softail fuel guages are know to be off.i bought by 04 heritage the milage was 170 miles and the needle never move off full!!!!
My Deluxe will throw the low fuel light around 135-140 miles and only takes ~3.3 gallons to fill even on the stand. I used to get 100-105 before hitting reserve on the peanut tank on my Sportster.
I can get about 220 - 240 miles on a tank of gas and the one time I pushed it I was able to put 5.1 gallons in tank. I avrage around 4.2 to 4.5 gallons a stop.
My LED gas guage always shows red prematurely. Mine goes red about 125 miles. I can stop and it only takes about 3.5 gallons to fill it up. I am confident I could get 190-200 miles per tank. I ususally fill up at about 160-170.
