Default 5 gallon tank?

I am confused. In the HD site it says the heritage classic softail has a 5 gallon tank. I have never been able to get 4 gallons in on an empty tank and even whenI ran it out of gas it only took 4 gallons. Why is that??? FLSTCI

Then I'd say your tank's not empty, despite what the gauge might say. It's 5 gallons, honest!

I always fill my fatboy up at about 160 miles, my tank usually takes about 4.1-4.3 gallons to fill up. I have filled my bike up as much as 5.1- 5.3before, so I expect I still have about1 gallon left at the 160 mile mark.

Don't trust the fuel guage, go by the mileage.

Yeah Jeff, I've been saying the same thing recently. My tank is supposed to be 5 gal on my 06 softail stsndard, but I have the LED Fuel gauge and goes down all 6 blue lights, then the red. I've ridden on the red for a few miles before and still the most I ever put in was about 3.4 gallons. It took me about 140 miles on that. I've never ran out of gas yet, though, dont know how much further I should push it either though.

Mine has a 5 gallon tank on it. When the reserve lite goes on, I have to put 4.1 gallons in it. If you don't pay attention to it, you get to push your bike to the nearest station and for sure, she'll take 5 gallons. I guarantee it!

You guys are not reading/understanding what jeff is saying, "4 gallons on empty"! Check your fuel filter, maybe something fell in the tank, you never know. In my fatty I can pull 200 miles before I run out. last time I made 185 miles and took 4.6 gallons!

Ive put in 4.3gallons in after filling my tank up with half a gallon at home when I ran out.. so I assume it is a 5.0 gallon tank on my 07 fatty...

sure felt like 5 gallons when lifting a full tank up from the frame to get at some wiring!! heheh
suggest never fill tank before thinking about working on your bike..at least anything that has to do with moving, removing, lifting the gas tank

oh another use of duct tape.. at least a roll of... is to prop up the gas tank
