I have an '07 Deuce and two shovelheads. I switch back and forth all the time. The only thing I have to remember is on the new one I have brakes and two more gears....... Ken
Went from 48 pan to 71 shovel to 75 shovel to 79 shovel to 06 TC. Across the board better in comfort, performance, and reliability. But, there is nothing on God's green earth that sounds better than a idling shovelhead with drag pipes.
I definately have to agree I love the sound of my shovel idling w/ my drag pipes
I can tell you from personal experience, if you get a Softail, you will find yourself dragging your toe on the ground every few miles just to make sure it's real and not some great virtual reality game.
the softtail is a good reliable smooth running bike. but the sound and the ride of the old iron can't be beat. i love the fathead , but the shovels got the sound and the looks. i want one andshould probably get one, all the wrenching will keep me out of trouble.
The new bikes are better in almost every way, except for the feel of actually riding them. A friend I always ride with has a 81 that looks like it rolled off the showroom yesterday, and even though it's slower and less comfortable I'd rather ride his bike than my Springer except on the highway. He works on it a lot, and roadside repairs are the norm on a long ride though. I'd recommend getting a Softail for a daily rider, but don't sell the Shovel. As soon as you sell it you will miss it.
