Finished my woods 555 cam install
Hey guys, just wanted to share my experience installing cams for the first time. I have a 2008 Softail deluxe, 96", with 23k miles. This is the first time diving into engine work, but it wasn't bad at all.
If anyone is on the fence about doing cams yourself, just do it. Make sure you have a manual that gives you all your torque specs and step by step procedures.
I installed woods 555 cams, woods lifters, S&S adjustable pushrods and replaced both cam chain tensioners. One thing to also replace which I had to run out and get is the retaining clip for the front cam.
After pulling all the old stuff out, I was worried because I noticed some light scoring on my pinion shaft. Checked the runout and it was at .0015 which was a huge relief. I've done all the work on my bike and really enjoy it. It's really the one good thing of having cold winter's, in CT, it allows me to take my time with any work I want to do.
I've lowered the bike 2", 14" Carlini gangster apes, all LED lighting, Cobra intake, Vance and Hines slip ons with a Fp3 tuner which I've really liked. It's no power vision, but so far the maps have been perfect for my needs. I haven't had a chance to get out and test her yet, I'm putting in a heavy duty clutch spring and I'm waiting for my rear caliper rebuild kit to come in the mail. It's a great feeling starting her up for the first time after doing a job like this. Here's a video for everyone. Now it's beer time!
