I keep the speedo on clock and every few starts the bike will hesitate not sound right then start and the speedo will now show mileage. Its been doing it for years but not often now it seems to be doing it more frequently. I have a new battery and voltage regulator. Any ideas????
I was going to say the battery, since that's usually the cause of the odometer rest on start. It does it because there's too much of a voltage drop. But, since you have a new battery that's eliminated. If I were you I'd go head and check the cables. Make sure they are clean and tight. Put a voltage meter on the battery and watch the voltage when you hit the starter to see how much of a drop you have. I'd also go ahead and verify you are getting around 13.6 volts at the battery at 2000-2500 rpm.
It will do it sometimes, even with a good battery, it you lug hard on a compression stroke. That's normal.
