I have a 97 FLSTS I run about 150 180 average have hit 200 moving slow on a hot day. Oil tank temp. Amsoil 20-50

Maybe the confusion about the right side oil tank is because the filler and feed lines are on the right side.

The feed lines do expose the engine temp oil allowing it to cool somewhat by convection with the ambient air temp. the walls of the oil tank provide a large aerodynamic surface to allow for more effective heat transfer. This perhaps could explain the heat difference.

Those big shinny legwarmers below certainly account for a few BTU's !![:@]

People were speaking of heat on the left side of the bike. I notice the heads are a bit closer to the rider legs and of course, those hot pipes accout for a bit too. My youngest daughter was kind enough to point this out to me last week.
