Default Softail Conversion

Hey all, been on the forum for a bit, but like to read, more than write. Anyways...
For medical reasons I'm wanting to change my 07 heritage into a shark nose roadglide. Anyone done this? I love my bike, but it rides like a rigid because I have a 23" tire on the front with 2" drop. 3" drop in the rear. Medically I'm unable to work, so buying a Roadglide isn't an option, and I've been trading airbrush work for the parts. It's my plan to remove the lowering kits both front and rear, and go to air ride. I've fabricated my own neck mount, and the rear bag mounts. My wife and I haven't been able to ride together for 2 years because of the pain it puts on my hips, and we used to ride everyday. I'm hoping this will help us ride again. I apologize, I'm rambling, but has anyone converted for comfort?

MLL&R,
Capt.

Not exactly sure how basically going back to a stock Sloptail suspension set-up is doing anything to make a RG out of a Heritage - completely different frames, engine/tranny/swing arm mounting, and so on. I can see the advantages of getting the bike back to standard suspension, front wheel/tire, but would go to better rear shocks, some emulators in the front forks, and even an old-style police solo seat on springs or even air bags. That seat even makes my '87 Sloptail ride like a dream.

Cop solo on springs with a scrounged passenger portion of an old stock Heritage seat.

Close-up of the cop solo & springs & spring perch.

This is the seat hinge for a solo seat. It's stainless steel. Drilled & tapped holes to mount it to the frame. Came from Fab Kevin.

I like the do it your self approach but you might come out ahead with a kit.

buying used parts off a wreck is also an option

Getting the suspension back to stock height using aftermarket shocks and a fork kit (I have Progressive 422 and Progressive Monotubes) will help soften out the ride and improve the handling. Even if you lower it conservatively 0.5 - 1 "you can still have a decent ride. Unfortunately nothing you do will make it ride like a Touring, Ive owned a RK and RG and for pure comfort and long distance they are in a class of their own.

if your going to a Road Glide fixed type fairing look at the aftermarket available instead of using a HD Road Glide Fairing, they are heavy. These guys make a frame mounted fairing that looks close to a RG and is half the weight and has all mounting parts with it.
