Default Jack Positioning Fat Boy - 2017 ( Pic )

Must have been discussed many times ,couldn’t find answers .
Where should jack be placed ,if I center it under the bike ,these shockers come on the left and center of jack ..?or should I move jack six inches to left so that ,shocks come in between width of jack which is 12 inches apart.
Got the frame protectors from HD ,need to cut them ,once I have some clarification.

When I had my heritage, I put thick rubber spacers on the jack. Just the front and rear part where the actual frame tube hits.
This allowed me to put the jack where I needed to raise the bike so it was balanced. No pressure on the shocks. Don’t want to put weight on those. I had the exact same lift.
Good luck.

so basically you r saying positioning under shock is ok ,but with additional rubber which will protect the shocks and take load onto the jack risers .Do you have by any chance pic of your modified lift ? Tx

just a mock up of what I had. If you want to lift bike balanced, you have to lift underneath shocks.
Don’t need much to give you clearance from the shock.

I’ve always placed the jack just in front of the shocks, the left jack rail lined up right under that cross member. Bike stayed balanced enough for fluid changes and cleaning with no problems. Didn’t use any additional rubber pieces.

I use the frame protectors (https://www.harley-davidson.com/store/frame-protectors) on either side of the shocks and align the front bar of the jack with the center of the engine (under the timing cover).

Looks like a good system, but are the frame protectors only used on the rear jack rail ? I don’t see them on front jack rail in this pic.

Did u mean cross member towards Right of shocks ..? So that I move jack six inches further down to the right ,hope there is enough room before stand interfears.I checked it again ,I think you meant left cross member ,distance between left and right cross member is 12” ,which is exact distance between two jack rails ,which will leave shocks in between .Pls clarify .

Thanks everyone else for your suggestions and pics too !!!!.

yes , the cross member to the right ( towards the front of bike ) in FRONT of the shocks is where I line up my jack. As i said it was stable enough to change all fluids and overall cleaning , I even changed the exhaust system jacked up that way , no issues. I think if you had the jack more towards the rear with shocks in middle of the jack rails u might block oil drain plug and trans plug or have a hard time getting to them , not sure.

although I think I like the frame protectors I just never even thought about it. BTW I have 2010 fat boy lo not sure if anything changed with your model year, Hope this helped .....
