Yeah this is a dumb *** question, but I can't find an answer anywhere I have looked.
I have a 02 FXSTS and the other day I went to start it and did not notice it was not in neutral nor had I pulled the clutch in. The motor turned over almost causing me to drop the bike. I have had several Harley's in the past few years and never had one that would even turn over while the transmission was in gear. I have searched my parts manual and service manual for a neutral safety start switch. I can find the neutral indicator light switch but not the safety switch.
Question is does it even have neutral safety start switch? I know there are others here that have the same model bike. Does your engine turn over while it is in gear?

It will start if in neutral OR the clutch is pulled in.
My '06 Fatboy starts in gear with no clutch too.
Did that once at a gas station after filling up, luckily I was sitting on it so all it did was lurch forward about a half a foot.
I was so intent on resetting the trip meter that I forgot to reach down and pull the shift lever up like I usually do when firing it up.

There are no clutch lever, side stand or other interlock switches on your machine, that didn't come until later years on 1HD models. Insure the bike is in neutral and/or the clutch lever is pulled in unless you want to chase the bike when you engage the starter.
