Just make sure the shift rod is parallel to the bike. If it's on an angle you run the risk of it binding and shifts will become more difficult.
Thanks for the feedback I’ll check. It’s interesting the stock linkage is zinc round stock and the ends are simply threaded studs mounted in a rubber boot. The 28 dollar machined billet aluminum aftermarket has planetary bearings on its ends......the shift is 100% improved.

One of the first upgrades I usually do is to replace the OEM shift rod....
I don't like the thick, fancy ones. I usually just switch to a chrome rod... but I want to get rid of the OEM ball joints on the ends and switch to the better Heim joints..
There have been numerous stories of the OEM ball joints wearing and just coming off during a ride... I've never heard of a heim joint having an issue...

The Heim is the one on my linkage....thanks for putting a name on it. That bearing setup is real good.
Heim Joints is the way to go. You can feel the difference between the Harley slop joints and the heim joints they feel tighter. 5/16" heim joints and a brass toilet rod cover over the Harley OEM rod.
