Default Brake Squeal

Greetings to all! I have an '06 Fatboy that I bought back in March with 3500 miles on it. I've since put over 2000 miles on it. The problem that I'm having is that my back brake squeals intermittently.[:@] It squeals the worst when I first start out. After I've ridden for a while it will squeal off and on when I stop.Is it time for new brakes or is there a quick fix for the squeal? Thanks!!

You shouldn't have to change them out, due to wear. Generally brake dust causes the squeal. You can change them with a high performance brake pad.

Mine do it, front and rear both, if I don't break a little aggressive...and I just changed the front pads about 2 weeks ago.

I had that problem with my front brakes. I took the calipers off, pulled the pads, and cleaned out the dust around the cylinder seals. A touch of grease on the bolts that the pads slide on can help as well. These two things cured my squeal.

I now have Lyndall pads on the front, they don't make as much dust as the stock Harley pads do.

Another thing to check is your rearwheel alignment. If it is off just a little you will get squeal.

pull the pads, sand them lightly with 220 grit sandpaper. use tack cloth or air to remove the dust/grit. You can also try and ease a radius onto the edges of the pad.

I had a friend who was told to switch to floating rotors after he had tried a couple of the other fixes and the floating rotors took care of the squeal.
