I'm doing a bit of work on the 13 Slim, I'm not going after big horse power gains or max performance but I am wanting to get the lean spots out of the F I map and have a 103 cu in motor that will respond to throttle input for something of that displacement and run a bit cooler. I have modified the stock mufflers to be more free flowing while still maintaining some back pressure and some noise suppression plus removed the "Cats" out of them. I'm going to re-map as well. So now next up is the air cleaner. I love the look of the stock unit so I'm wanting to improve the flow of that if I can and keep the look of the traditional round black air cleaner cover. One thought I've had after looking at the housing is to cut away more openings in it and add a K&N filter if there is one that fits the stock set up. My concern here is that if I cut away more of the housing I may screw up up the air flow and get less air than what I was after. I realize some engineer had worked long and hard to design in those original 3 holes.
Can I improve upon the system by cutting away more and if not is there something aftermarket that will allow me to keep my original cover and add a K&N ? I'm trying real hard here to keep the old school look of the bike.
