Do all aftermarket air cleaners stick out further? I'm running an aftermarket filter that uses stock housing cover but sticks it out prob 2 inches now.
For just running a catless header, slip-on mufflers, and PowerVision...do I even need the aftermarket air cleaner? Does anyone use stock or maybe the K&N replacement filter?
It would help us to know which filter you currently have. The stock airbox is actually a muffler, as well as providing a mounting for the filter element. Simply replacing the stock housing with a flat backplate will increase noise and airflow. The SE filters usually get rid of the stock airbox and the last one I had didn't seem to be any deeper, it also used the stock cover. Take a look at #29400233.
I felt a big improvement in performance w/ my aftermarket cleaner (big sucker) vs my stock filter. What air cleaner are you using?
I also didn't like it sticking out further at first but I recently got floorboard extensions and the difference is night and day, much more comfortable.
