I love my 2007 custom Fatboy. Has decent power, looks sharp (though I bought it with the custom Willie G paint already done), comfortable, etc., but its starting to feel a lil porky compared to current engines/models. Part of me also likes the idea of buying a new bike and having custom paint work done based on my own specific choices, etc. So, if you were me and had this bike, would you keep it and just do a Big Bore kit, etc or buy one of the 2081/2019 Fatboy 114s that Im seeing great deals on??
First, bad *** bike.... I am probably the last person to post on this since I build bikes and can't leave anything alone. If this was mine, and it was paid for, I would rebuild the motor and go through the bike and do all the maintenance issues that it needs then I would upgrade the suspension to the company of your choice. I prefer Progressive suspensions on my bikes. If you can do all this and not have to pay payments on anything to me that is a win win.
Now, that being said if you are hellbent on getting the newest bike and have the cash to pay outright or if you don't mind financing something then go with the new bike. It's a difference of 3-5 thousand to upgrade compared to almost 20 grand for a new bike... plus the custom paint can run another 2000.00 plus for most shops. I know my painter wants almost a grand for one color. Of course this is based on how much of the work you do yourself compared to paying someone as the price will go up big time if your paying a shop for everything....Good luck on your decision, and post up what you decide....
Nice looking scoot. I come down on the side of making what you have into what you really want from a Harley. Your year already has a 6 speed and the 200 rear tire. Personally, any fatter than this on the rear is not very practical if you enjoy going fast in the twisties. You could pick up some new wheels, get the bike painted how you like, upgrade suspension, Progressive was mentioned above...great choice. Build the engine to at least 100/100 hp/tq.etc.
it will look and feel like a completely new bike and put the new models from Harley to shame.
