The battery is fully charged, am just about to go out and check the on/off switch. I had a crimped wire once last summer by the steering, but i also had that fixed. i looked around there and didn't see anything.
Have you checked your ignition switch yet , as mentioned ? You may want to remove the console and check your connections , could be a bad switch or poor connection , broken wire etc .
Looked under there once, but i'm gonna look again tomorrow. The mechanic at the shop i go to suggested i try to wiggle it. The thing that concerns me is that not even the security light is working. That's always the first thing i see on my bike.
This may sound stupid , but have you checked the pos and neg cables , both ends . Check along the full length of each and make sure there are no breaks inside the jacket as well .
Regarding the ignition switch , I'm sure you've checked the wiring and connections , but if your problem lies inside the switch , it can be taken apart , cleaned and inspected . I myself have never done it , but there are videos I've seen , looks easy enough .
I have also seen the videos. but i will also check the battery cables tomorrow. nothing at this point seems like a stupid questions. I appreciate any suggestions.
So what ever is going on , it keeps blowing fuses. So maybe there's a short or i'm doing something wrong. Each time i have tried to put the 40 amp fuse in, I then try to reconnect the battery. When i do it sparks and blows the fuse. Should i just leave the battery connected and put the fuses in?
No don't do that, you're going to need a wiring diagram and trace out the downside of the 40 amper to see why that keeps blowing. You didn't have any add-ons into your lighting system did you? like turning your rear directionals into brake and running lights?
i didn't add anything to the bike in over two rears. i was riding the bike 3 weeks ago, i have a friend who said maybe the starter is stuck, said i should put it into 6th then roll it back and fourth. then reconnect everything . I know nothing about wiring, so if this doesn't work i'm just gonna have to wait till my state reopens to get it to my regular shop
Ok, I managed to find a wiring schematic, it's of a 2015 manual but I believe 2011-2016 are all the same. Any ways it appear that your main fuse is blown and there is only 3 things that can cause that,
1) Body Control Module issue
2) ABS Module issue
3) Voltage Regulator (internal short)
I would bet that it's the Voltage regulator. 2012"s were a known issue. Down on the bottom of your frame down tubes is the voltage regulator. It has 2 connectors coming into it from the back side. The 2 wire connector is the power feed off of the main 40a fuse. Disconnect that and then try a new 40a main fuse. It can't be the starter because it's before the main fuse..
