Well it seems I've been looking for a Unicorn because I have yet to find a rear shock replacement for my 86 Heritage.
I sure could use some help and good news on what options are out there... thanks!
Chuck
I have had fournales pan cruise on my 86 fxstc for 20 years in Western Australia and am in the process of doing a factory exchange set from the Australian dealer in Queensland. They come with 2 years warranty and are great as they are dual adjustable, being you can adjust preload and ride height separately. They are pricey though.
Follow up on the Worx Shocks. I think I have around 400 miles on them and maybe 30 riding 2-up. Great ride in both scenarios. Firm but confrontable. Haven't bottomed out. The length is adjustable and I have them set to full extension per Worx recommendations. Very happy I was able to snag these.
my V factor shocks look the same as your black ones except mine were chrome. Not sure about worx. But my v factor were trash, horrible, bottom out and tramoplinish. Especially riding 2 up. I even added a washer and thicker fork oil to them. I brought the old shocks to a 30 year plus Harley mechanic and they said you cannot refill them. I ended up getting a new swing arm that were made for the 89-99 models so I could put good shocks on them. They had to make a few cuts to fit but worked out well. I rode the new swing arm to sturgis from Arkansas so no probs. I have a 87FXSTC by the way
I know this is an older thread, but wanted to ask some for some info on your 89-99 swingarm in your 87 frame;
What cutting or fitting modifications did you have to do in order to mount the 89-99 shocks and swingarm into your 87?
are the 87 and 89 swingarm different or is the frame different?
Did you have to modify the frame or transmission mount or just the swingarm?
I'm facing the same project on my 87 heritage and have ordered a 94 swingarm off ebay
thanks!
