Default 1986 Heritage Softail Classic Shocks?!?!?

Well it seems I've been looking for a Unicorn because I have yet to find a rear shock replacement for my 86 Heritage.

I sure could use some help and good news on what options are out there... thanks!

Chuck

For some reason all the major shock manufactures quit making 84-88 softail shocks...I currently have the small bodied shocks you are looking at on my 84...they suck pretty bad 2-up...

You could make the 89 up shocks work by cutting and welding the shock mount on the swing arm...you only have to change the angle a few degrees so the shocks don't hit the trans mount...

I have always wondered would changing to an 89 up swing arm work...but I have never had the 2 together to check...

Those do not fit the OP`s bike....

The frame and swingarm of the Softail changed for the 1989 model year. `89 and later shocks can be found no problem.

`88 and earlier is another story...

Man what a learning experience... I was able to speak with Tim at Worx Shocks (formerly Works Performance) and they are planning to build these again but estimated at least 6 months before they begin at best. HOWEVER, I did score a set of Works Shocks that come off a Custom Softail that a guy swapped out for an air ride suspension. They are like new and got them for a steal so I'm pretty happy about that. One of the benefits of this is that they are rebuildable and since I have no plans to ever sell this bike I may snag another set if/when they come up for sale.

Appreciate the input from everyone!

Chuck

Yes! '84 to '88 had eyelets on both ends like the ones I pointed out. J&P https://www.jpcycles.com/product/113...-series-shocks, states they will fit, Dennis Kirk site says they won't (https://www.denniskirk.com/progressi...22-4001c.p5845. Progressive's site says yes and no! https://www.progressivesuspension.co...-series-shocks Listed as fitting( very top of the page) if you input the year and model of the bike and father down the page it states '89 to '17. I'm not trying to argue with you. I have a '86 FXSTC that really could use new shocks and am as confused as the OP. Any help would be appreciated!
