2001 Deuce (FXSTDI)
nothing fancy as far as mods. stock engine. V&H Pro pipe, air cleaner and Techlusion piggyback programmer
recently developed an electrical problem: IAC continues to cycle every 10 seconds or so after bike shut off. does not matter if shut off with on/off switch on right hand control, or main power switch on dash. replaced IAC with spare one. no change. checked both system and starter relays and sockets. swapped starter and system relay. no change. tested all 4 wires from IAC back to ecm. no broken wires. no dead shorts. can see cycling voltage at same interval in plug with digital multi-meter. only way to stop the cycling is to let battery die completely, or pull ecm fuse.
my thoughts are that there is a short in the ecm. does anyone know how to test for that?
does anyone have any other ideas?
does anyone have a known good ecm that they would be willing to loan me for diagnostic purposes?
Check your fuse box for corrosion , and all the relays . If there is any corrosion on them , including the fuse box itself , take some Electrical Contact cleaner and clean them up , let it dry . Add a little de electric grease as well to the blades of the fuse / relay , this will help prevent corrosion .

already done these things. did not have any effect.
Was out riding yesterday with a family member who when his bike gets hot the IAC doesn't cycle right - so when we stop for fuel after a couple hours on the bikes & being almost 90 in PA yesterday his bike wont start, if you put a new IAC on did you clear the codes......did you check the codes? usually there is a fault in the system if it wont quit cycling - do you have a tuner on the bike? sometimes the piggy back tuners will cause such issues = unplug which resets then replug & good to go. keep us posted....!

checked codes: none present.
have an old tuner that has been on it since 2001, Techlusion, but have not power cycled it. will try that this afternoon
only other thing is a bad relay which as mentioned above can be an issue - I know you might not see any oxidation or corrosion on the out side but internally those things can be a mess, on an 01 if never changed?????? id try it, just temp changes, moisture, heat, etc.. well you get the idea.

Don't know if this will help , but been doing some research and read the techs at some dealers are telling new owners to shut the bike down with the Kill switch on the handlebars before turning the ignition switch , not sure how true this is , but seems to be stated in the manual as well . If you do a search for " IAC keeps cycling Harley forum " , you'll find all kinds of info . Your not the only one with this issue .

tried the switch thing. no change.
only thing i can seem to find on forums is bad IAC and relay / fuse corrosion, both of which have been checked and are not the issue
