Tried to post last night don't know what happened. Has any one used custon classic bags and mounts. I want detachables but don't want to hock the house. I have a 06 soft tail springer.
I would look at eBay or other new/used bag seller. I bought my 2007 Heritage Classic in late April and when I purchased the bike I ordered detachable bags. I placed my stock bags on eBay and they sold for about $200.00 less than new even though they only had 100 miles on them. Just a though.
I think the brackets are actually easy brackets. I ordered my bags from them, and the easy brackets came with it. They are great. Easy to install, and the quality of the bags are great. Way bigger than the bags that are made for the deluxe. I would highly recomend them.
I swear, what saddlebags to get is the hardest decision. I was debating about bags on my Sportster for ages, but have picked up an '07 Springer recently and really think I will want saddlebags for some touring, but this gets into a really interesting issue. One of my requirements has always been that they be detachable. Take your pick of reasons, but one primary one is that the motorcycle is just easier to clean if I can pop the bags off. It also seems like Easy Brackets or Ghost Brackets will leave the bags sticking out a bit. I'm not sure if this is the same deal on a Softail, but I know they would stick out on a Sportster, so not being able to use those brackets eliminated a lot of choices.
A new issue with the springer is that the staggered pipes leave a lot of space on either side so smaller bags look REALLY small. Of course, it also never hurts to get as much space as I reasonably can. This makes the quick detach Boss bags an iffy choice since they seem on the smaller side. The larger Boss bags seem to require a side plate that just doesn't look good with the bags off (and I imagine they are only intended to be removed for cleaning). The Iron Bags are not detachable so they aren't an option.
That's left me with the Leatherpros bags which have large bags that use their quick release system. They seem to be solid bags, and I've not read any bad feedback on them. However, before I commit to ordering these, can anyone think of any options that I've missed considering, or are any of my observations incorrect? The Leatherpros aren't THE most expensive bags I've seen out there, but they certainly cost enough to where I want to really make sure I've made the right decision.
Oh, and sorry to sorta hijack a thread here with my question. It just seemed like some of the bags I've been looking at were mentioned here, and I didn't want to start another saddlebag thread so soon after this one was started.
