Default 2001

Looking at a used 2001owned by a 50 year young gent. Will see it Saturday.
Looks clean. 12k miles. Screamin Eagle package. FXST with 95 cid.

I sold my 2018 Heritage. Was having issues with it early and just did not like that.

This is the standard softail.

As always... the maintenance it received is more important that the age, with that low mileage... sometimes low mileage bikes don't receive proper care...

If he took care of it... it could be a real gem and a great bike for many years...

2001 twin cam was the last of the good cranks, it had a forged crank and the left side Timken bearing... solid bottom end!

If it has EFI, it will be a good Delphi ECM, much better than the previous MM EFI.... If it has an OEM carb, it will be a Keihin CV40 carb... an underrated carb IMHO, and easy to rebuild, tune, and get parts for..

The only possible downside are the spring cam tensioners... those should be addressed... with the good bottom end of the 2001 TC engines, you should have minimal crank run out, so you can address the cam tensioners with anything from new shoes, to gear drive cams... depending on budget and preference...

As with any older bike purchase... service records/receipts are a plus... but be prepared to replaced out dated tires (7 years max, regardless of tread, by most standards), and complete fluid flush/fill, to include the brake fluids...

It has the bones to be a really good bike... maintenance and condition will be the deciding factors..

Good luck with your inspection...

Thanks for that info on the bearings. That I did not know. Good to know. I am not sure if this is a carb or injected model until I see it? I ran the VIN and it is good to go.

You could ask the seller.....

Or, if you have pictures, the quick giveaway is whether or not it has a fuel petcock.... zoom in on the tank and if it has an on/off lever on a fuel petcock where the fuel line comes out of the tank, it's a carb...

CARB:

Fuel Injection:
