Are you wanting something softer than the stock seat, or are you running the tractor seat? Depending on what you're wanting, Wild *** is a great option to consider as well. No mods needed and it worked incredibly well for me.
I used a Crossbones mounting kit on my Softail Slim and have a Corbin reproduction tractor seat mounted to that. On an earlier Harley I owned I had pretty much the same set up but the springs came from J&P Cycles. Those springs had just a little give to them and were perfect for my 195 lb weight. My current springs have 0 give to them and might as well be steel struts. Part of what makes these seats work so well is the built in suspension. J&P cycles is not what it used to be when I bought the last set up, back then they had numerous springs to choose from and you could best pick the tension that worked for you. If I had to guess the springs I have now are probably for a 250 lb rider. I'm hoping to find some one who carries springs that can give me technical data on them.
My home PC I think I have an old link to some springs which were recommended ages ago. They were a sort of "progressive" spring, lot of give at first but then stiffened up. I had contemplated putting them on my seat for awhile. Will update if I find it.
