Have replaced my bars on my fatboy 2010 now the brake light stays on. follow me. press the lever brake light dims Let the lever go brake light goes on Removed the orange/white wire from the connector brake light dims (press the foot brake light illuminates Swapped the wires in the connector, re-installed and brake light is solid
so the both switches are working front and back. Whyis it working opposite? Press goes off, let go and stays on?
I had the same problem. There is a small, bent brass piece that goes over the pointed tongue on the brake lever. This piece holds the switch in when the lever is not in use.
Mine got lost when I was messing with the throttle assembly and I took a half inch long piece of 1/4" ID tubing, cut a slit in the middle and stuck it on the tongue. It worked like a champ!
For my 2008 Heritage it was part no. 71587-04 but I am still running with my homemade fix.

Nah wasnt that but thanks. thought it was wiring so ill remove all the wires from the connector. I put back only the wires for the switch into the connector. Still the same. I thought then why are the switch wire black and Black/red? Old switch orange and red? Connected the old switch in and wala!!! Works. Looked at my order and my order was correct but the shop sent me a clutch switch instead. There you go, will be on the phone on Monday lol
yep but nothin to do with the wires, its the switch. Ppl think the clutch and brake switches are the same. Not. They have opposite components to the way they work. Cheers

I have a similar problem on my 2017 Softail Slim FLS . I press the brake lever and the brake light stays on unless i push it back with my fingers..Seems like the master cylinder piston won't retract because of all the gunk built up inside of it throughout the years..My bike has 32k on it so I am going to clean the switch before replacing the master cylinder..Harley dealership immediately wants to replace it but I don't trust them..
