Default Handlebar switch problems '02 softail

Sorry for the long post...

I am in the process of swapping out the stock bars on my 2002 Night Train EFI for 16" apes. The previous owner took off the turn signals. The old switch wires were soldered poorly, and came apart when I pulled them out, so I just went ahead and bought new switches with 52" wires. I got them pulled through the bars, cut back to the proper length, and connected to the deutsch connectors. The left side has 1 extra wire that I assumed was for the blinker, so I just capped it and taped it back out of the way. The right side has 2 extra wires. There are 2 orang/white stripe wires (I believe one is for the brake, and one for the blinker), as well as a white with wide black stripe, and a white with skinny black stripe (I think one of those is supposed to be white w/ grey stripe, but I don't see a color difference in the stripes). I thought I followed the wiring diagram. I ended up capping and taping one of the orange/whites, and the white/skinny black out of the way. When I buttoned everything up, the left controls all seem to work. Horn and hi-lo beam are fine. The right side is all messed up, though. The engine run/off switch makes the green right turn arrow below the speedo flash slow then fast, and the engine start button does nothing. Am I missing a ground somewhere? Do those extra wires HAVE to be connected somewhere? This is my first attempt to work on my bike, and I feel like I'm close to success, but am growing increasingly frustrated. Can anyone help, please?

LarsDavidson,

I did a bar swap early this summer and found the information available at the following webpage (Wiring diagram) very useful. Good luck...

For anyone contemplating any electrical work on their bike, always have the wiring diagram on hand.

Don`t work blind...
