Default Hot oil (?)-new STC

Hi, Just got a new '07 STC, love it. 200 miles on it so far. Even after 10 minutes following shut off, the oil stick **** is too hot to
touch without using a rag, etc. Is this normal??? Thanks guys, Steve

Congrats on your new ride.Post a Picture when you get a chance... I think what you have described is correct. Remember this bike has an oil tank and the oil is pumped to the engine. It is not a wet sump machine. Mine reads about 220 230 even with Synth....

Take care.

Until you get 500 on it, that's if you are using the dino it came with avoid stop and go and city as much as possible. I was seeing close to 250 in these situations and 230-240 on long cruises. When switching to Amsoil it dropped 15-20 in same circumstances. It now has about 3000 kilometers on it and even on the hottest days in Ontario it settles in around 210-220 on the dipstick. That in the oil world is perfect operating temp. Friction losses are down and moisture is burned out of the oil. Your bike sounds normal for the miles on it .

Thanks very much guys. Amsoil is synthetic?? I will switch to synthetic, although I did see one post indicating that eng. noise was louder with synthetic, but not sure if that is "objectionable" loudness....would rather have the oil doing it's thing better at right temperature vs.eng. noise.
Ref.posting a pic, I tried and it said too large....anybody know of software or sites for reducing size of a .jpg ??? Thanks again, Steve

harleys are not built to be ridden on days when the temp gets over 75 degrees. Anyone from the south will tell you they get very hot in warmer climates. In stop and go traffic you will have to pull over and shut it down to allow it to cool off. I just finished working in Toronto, and several harley riders told me that they park them when it gets near 90 degrees outside. Some of the other brands with air cooled engines have figured out how to make them run cool on hot days, but harley is still working on a solution to the problem. Don

250 was the average on my ride till I went with Amsoil, it dropped 20 degrees with the stuff. Went down more when I went with a PCIII.
Not pushing Amsoil ( dont sell or whatever), I tried Mobil 1, but in my ride it didnt work as well.

Running amsoil and have a tuned PCIII, bike runs around 200 - 225 usually. Rode 160 miles today at 85 degrees, dipstick read just under 200 (198ish).

No traffic or anything, mostly highway riding.

So you people Down South have a limited riding season, December and January right? . Come on ican, 75 Degrees... Sure maybe pull over and cool down a bit but this would be in extreem heat I would think. These bikes have been around for decades and they are mostlyair cooled. Also, oils have gotten muchbetter over theyears.
