Default Question: Hardbag Conversion

Looking at changing to hard bags on Wifey's '16 Hertiage. I'm looking at Hogworkz but listening to other possibilities. The main question I have is will have to change her exhaust? Also can I get them in factory Blue Ice Pearl?

If you have a lowering kit on her bike you will run into issues with the bag scrapping on the left aide. As far as the exhaust, it will need to be below the axle bolt. You will also need to flip the bolt

That's the issue I am dealing with now. Wife has a 2020 Standard and to put the bags on I have to change the exhaust which includes a new system and tuner plus the 600.00 kit to put the brackets and bags on... Unfortunately there looks like there is only one make of exhaust that will work for to put the exhaust below the axle and that is about 800.00. So, a simple project is going to be around 1800.00, so it may wait a while.....Good luck on your project.

You can always go with Viking Bags. They also have the matching trunk.

Cycle visions is the only set of brackets that I would go with (did go with). They have a crossover brace that actually works and is totally worth the price for the brackets. Previous posters are correct, exhaust should be below the axle bolt and you'll need to turn the axle itself around as well.

Good luck!

She wants color matched bags and I personally like that option better myself. But I'm prolly gonna put this project on hold for now. She's only been riding a little less than a year. Even though I wanted her to be ready for the conversion she laid the bike over again in our driveway not long after creating this thread. She's steadily improving but I can't see doing the conversion at this point then damaging the new bags just to have to send them back to be repainted.

Thanks for everyone's input.

If she's dropping it by just moving it around, I've done it a few times, have her seat lowered, shaved an inch on each side and scoot her up about an inch. She'll love it.

Seat height isn't as much the issue as she admittedly still hits the front brake with the bars turned during low speed maneuvers. She knows and admits the mistake but...…………..

It's nothing but time and experience my friend. She'll come around, but like you I would hold off on the more expensive mods, for now anyway.

I just wrapped up my bags/pipes project and happy with it so far, but more to come. I have a small build thread going and that's where I'm posting mainly but here's a picture to help you decide. This is my 2012 deluxe:

Agreed, but a little more bend in the knee and solidly planted foot will build confidence. Like I said, I've dropped mine a time or 2, but being lower now, and solid helps keep the bike upright.
Good luck👍
