Default 2002 softail springer questions?

A fella at work may be selling his springer shortly.....Its only got 5000 miles on it and its immaculate...Its got a carbed 88b motor etc....And his askin price of 11.500 dollars seems very fair to me...This bike is 100% stock ...Still has original tires battery etc.....Absolutely clean bike and all sheduled servicing has been done also......Is $11.500 a good price ?

My questions i guess are mainly about the 88B motor....Any ISSUES with this motor i need to look into? like cam tensioners, bearings etc ? He tells me even though its hard mounted, it is pretty dang smooth and pulls really strong etc......He has not had any problems with the bike whatsoever to speak of, and is lookin to sell it to buy a 2008 model bagger for him and the wife to do some touring on.....

I have ridden sportsters most of my 30 years of ridin motorcycles and am lookin at maybe gettin a bigger bike for some 2 up rides with my wife from here in fla to tennessee etc.Any info about 2002 softail springer models or similar year models would be appreciated....The good and the bad ! Thanks !

Mines an 05 andI absolutely love it. I haven't heard anything bad about that model year. They really are pretty smooth. You get some vibration if you really twist it up but nothingI would consider a problem at all.See if you can ride it first (if you have not already) and feel for yourself. As for the price it seems more than fair for my neck of the woods. With only 5000 miles it's barely broken in.As for the chain tensioners alot of people are getting pretty good mileage out of them.If it is really a concern you can change them and the cams down the road if you want a little more power.I personally wouldn't lose any sleep over them though. The Springers require some extra maintenance but nothing to ward me off from buying another one that's for sure.If you get it post some pics.

Sarge,

Sounds like a reasonable price for a clean Springer.

Have no worries w/ the 88 cu., by '02 it was already around for a few years. Folks are getting well over 100,000 miles out of them! I doubt you'll be making that many trips from FL to TN.

Don't think you will regret this bike, or that you will find a cleaner bike for less.

Like Darkside said, if you get it...be sure to post some pics in the Springer section.

I've also been thinking about looking into shopping for a springer,(just love the looks). What kind of additional maintenance is there with the springers? I've located a 2000 classic with 9000 miles for 12,000.00 OBO. I haven't gone to look at it yet, but in the pics, it looks very clean.

I have the 2001 model of this bike, with 37,000 miles on it now, and it runs superbly.. No rattles, knocks or anything else..
Sounds like a good buy to me..

Just gotta check and adjust the rockers on the front end peroidically. With a manual and some tools it's no big deal. They just need alittle more attention paid to them is all.Like I said it would never sway me from getting another Springer.
