Default this ain't good, is it...

63 degrees yesterday, two days heavy rain a few days ago to wash the salt off.
so I pulled the covers, fired her up for the first ride of the year.
Let her warm up a bit as I cleaned my glasses and got jacket on.

took an hour ride around the block

pulled in and saw this

that dribbled out of primary side in the 5 minutes or so it warmed up before pulling out.
I checked fluids, didn't lose enough on my short ride to cause any concern thank goodness

cleaned bottom up today, all cover bolts and drain plug tight.
started it up and within couple/few minutes here come the drips.
It's not any gaskets on the front covers or drain plug

it's drooling down from behind the primary .
Guess I have a blown seal, right?

I was quoted a ball park price from a reputable indy of $350-$450 depending which seal.
be putting the covid cash to good use

BUTT....DAMMIT!!!!

What year/model bike?

If it's transmission oil, and depending on the year, it's likely the mainshaft seal has been taken out by the inner primary bearing inner race having walked into it. A few years ago, this happened to Reaper, so I took the opportunity to replace the stock 2 piece bearing with a one piece Baker High Torque IPB.

Cheers!

I went thru same few years ago.
mine was the shift shaft seal which I only found out after pulling primary
Most will recommend replacing any other seals and bearings while it's apart which is what I did

May not hurt to clean it up real good and take it for a ride then see if you can figure out where it's coming from

Thanks Clammy
it's an '04 Deuce I bought a couple years ago w/10k miles on it.
it has 19 and change on it now.

what's odd to me, it showed no evidence of drips last year.
Put it away in November, and the first start of the year there's a puddle

Been using Bel Ray gear for trans and Bel Ray primary.
They're both red, so no way I can tell if trans or primary oil

I just hope it's nothing more serious than a seal

Thanks OD

I cleaned it up and got a mirror and light to look around.
I can't tell if coming from shift seal looking from top, and can't see that area with mirror from bottom.

My mirror isn't small enough like a dental mirror, so all I can see is it's dribbling down from "somewhere" in the clutch area behind the primary

We get old, we dribble.
Sorry about the leak and glad you have someone you trust to work on your bike.

That looks like a cool blue I have not seen on a Deuce.

How about a nice profile shot?

Thanks

two-tone Impact blue/Luxury blue
Fell in love with it the first day I saw when my friend bought it new in '04 .
He bought a new Road King in '07 and and rarely rode the Deuce after that.
Made me a deal a couple years ago I couldn't refuse

Nice, thanks
Had to go back to 2016 in the "photo's ' to even find a blue one.

In late 99' I had the cash. Had just purchased a Buell X1 Lightning and sold my 15 year old 85' Softail.
Thought I was good for a while until a hot sales girl at Motor City (Farmington Mi) showed me pics of this 'new ST'

Those were the days of 'short supply/high demand and over list pricing.

Lived a couple miles from ABC in Waterford and he said he could get me a black one, at list, in 6 weeks.
It was supposed to be a Demo for Winona Judd.
She would show up with her crew once a year and they would give them bikes to ride.
Took it.

Agreed. A dirt gobbler could have built a nest in the hose (they love that), blocking any excessive pressure from escaping easily and forcing its way through seals. BTDT.
