Sup boys n girls. New to this site. Haven't had a bike under my backbone in about 10 urs and just acquired an 09 Train. My last ride was an 06 fxstc. Long story short my cousin acquired it about 3 yrs ago, he bought it and immediately started cutting. Cut the neck and was doing some mods. Put a glide front end on it and a few other things im not completely sure of. While in the middle of this project, a divorce ensues and during said time his lady torched his trailer he was in. The bike was safe but any and all documentation was lost. He continued on with it and about 8 months ago he lost his life to an OD.2 weeks ago my uncle rang me, knew that I've always ridden and asked if I wanted it. I do know it started life as a 09 NightTrain, has a wide glide setup on it, been laid over, where the neck was welded up he welded almost completely over the VIN, there's no other frame vin that I can find.
Been looking at some aftermarket frames but all I can find is frames for the 88 ci. Found a couple of videos of a guy that says he successfully put a 96 into an 88 frame so I do have that as a start. Would prefer to have a good used stock frame but haven't been able to find one for a 96. Does anyone know of any good bike salvage yards I can get in contact with that might have a frame w title for the 96, or even the 88 if I have to go that route?
Also, I've been reading thru some posts here regarding tires. Ive mostly rand Metzler on my old bikes but all I can find is a radial for the back and bias for the front. Tire technology has changed over the years and I've been out of the game for a while. Is that common nowadays to mix them up like that or what is ev1 running? 200 on the rear and a 21" up front.
I had an 09 Night Train, nice bikes. Depending on how much you want to pay you might contact the Harley Dealership. They can supply a new frame with the original VIN on it. You just have to cut the neck off your existing frame and turn it in before you order it. I did that with an 07 Road King I rebuilt and it worked out great. Took about 3 weeks to get the frame. Sorry to hear about the loss of your cousin. Good luck on your project.
