I want to upgrade my current stock exhaust, intake, fuel management, etc. Basically want to "remodel" my 2014 FatBoy Lo. First thing I want to replace is my exhaust. My question is, I live in California, is it really that big of a deal if I get aftermarket exhaust installed even though the do not ship to California?
It's not a problem. No annual inspection, smog check etc. This has been discussed on the forums a few times here. I'm In SoCal. I have a K&N intake I had shipped to a friend in Utah, who resent to me. My exhaust is a Vance Hines big radius 2 into 1 which came with catalytic converter that I "de-catted" before installing the pipes. I removed the fuel canister re circulating system to make room for installation of a Jegs oil cooler and engine guard. It runs great, pulls strong, idles nicely. I installed an external breather with a catch can. I have a first generation FP tuner. You will need to consider adding some kind of tuner if you change to a higher performance intake and exhaust. Good luck with your mods, there are alot of choices of aftermarket goodies to choose from
I too am in SoCal, and generally you should be fine. Most places that law is not enforced. I’m told it is a $1,000, however, if caught. Orange county has a rep for stopping. As long as you are not “whaling” on the throttle in front of a cop you should be fine.

This. I have Samson True Dual Fishtails and never have had an issue, even shipping them here. However, that said, Bassani and Vance and HInes are both here in SoCal, and they will not sell directly to you or ship to you if you're in Cali.
Very true. How ironic. Typical cali move. The company that sells them is in cali but they are banned in cali. Lol. Wtf
Yeah, originally I was going to go with Vance and Hines true dual fishtails, glad I didn't in the end. Samson had great customer service and I love the sound and look they've given my Deluxe.

right...no inspections. But because of some @$$Holes in both cars and bikes, some town are enforcing noise control. Recently a lady I know was pulled over on the freeway for loud exhaust. She has a dyna with V&H short shots. probably just harassment. So, as the above post, don’t be obnoxious, and you “should” ok. We’ve been in restaurants on the 101/PCH when some @$$hats went by and our plates rattled. That’s obnoxious and why some towns, like mine, are enforcing noise code.
ironically the state db limit on motorcycle exhaust is lower than that for cars. So, if you get pulled over, and your exhaust is not stamped EPA or CARB compliant, you’ll likely found in violation. As I’m sure my unmodified SE Street Canons are quite above the limit now that they are broken in. IMHO, I think HD designed them to get louder as the break in, to get by...and maybe even thumb their nose at the EPA & CARB..

It actually has nothing to do with noise and everything to do with the jerks over at C.A.R.B. They are the governing body and is limiting not just bikes but ALL vehicles to include diesels on parts.
To all that have replied, thank you for the messages. All this makes sense. I an not an a$$hat on this Fat Boy. I seriously bought it to just cruise. Always wanted a Harley and got it in 2014, just never bothered to really beef it up or add anything to it. I love this bike and want to just give a meaner profile. I just ordered the V&H and will be purchasing a few more items to ensure the bike continues to ride smooth. Again, thank you all for the advice.
I have aftermarket slipons on my 2013, I would love to put fishtail duel exhaust but no one will ship to cally these days. If anyone knowz of someone who will ship please pm me, they'll get a new customer.
