Default '02 softail swingarm bearings - when to replace?

Hey guys,
I have the back end apart and doing new tires and wheel bearings on my 2002 fatboy.
Is it a good idea to replace the swingarm bearings while I'm there?
the bike is 19 years old and has done roughly 40K on the original swingarm.

Also, do these bearings require a special type of bearing puller / installer tool? Or the same tool that I have for the wheel bearings?

Thanks for any advice.

If you have it appart then I definitely would do it. It won't hurt anything. It's super cheap and super easy to do. I did mine in while it was apart and it took maybe 30-45 minutes to pop them out and put in new ones.

Thanks, I've got the bearings on order.

Is there a special type of bearing puller / installer needed for these type of bearings?

My 06 has almost 100K and I have wondered that too.

I've done many many bearings before and I think they are very easy to do. You can get a cheap bearing puller from harbor freight. Or you can take a torch and heat up the bearing and press it out using sockets and a vice. Then put the new bearings in the freezer for a while and once they are nice and cold press them in using sockets and a vice. Im sure you can find a video on goggle of someone doing it with a vice if you don't want to get a puller. The swingarm bearings pop in and out very easily.

Thanks ! That's good to know.

I haves no problem buying a particular tool for the job provided it is needed and not too expensive as I'm only likely to use it once.

Will a "standard" type bearing puller / installer tool work for these bearings? I already have a multi use puller / installer that I bought for the inner cam bearing job.
Thanks
