Looking for opinions.
Sold my bike and have narrowed my decisions for new bikes down to a few. Two specifically that im looking at are
1) 06 Heritage (88ci), 25,000 km (15K Miles). The bike looks 100% stock, well taken care of.
2) 07 Heritage (96ci) 50,000 km (30k Miles). Customized very close to the way I like it & pride of ownership radiates off this bike. + stage 1
Ideally, I want the 07. It has the bigger engine, and is basically done cosmetically. I love the way the bike looks, but am thinking of the miles on the bike, and the life left. And yes I have seen all the bikes with well over 100K. so maybe im just overthinking it.
The 06 has my attention solely because of the lower km. but worries me a little with he cam chain tensioner issues on the 88ci.
Im not 100% going to purchase one of these two, but ive been looking for weeks and these two really grabbed my attention. The prices of bikes right now is crazy.
I have two Heritage Softails, one a five speed and one a six speed. The six speed is much better for most riding, and the upgraded cam tensioner shoes are also nice. Get the '07.
I have a 2006 FLSTC and absolutely love it. I took care of the tensioner issue early on by installing gear driven cans. I had no power issues with the 88, although I put a big bore kit on it at 89K, along with ported heads. Since I bought a 2018 FLTRU, the six speed has spoiled me and that is the only complaint I have now with Heritage. Buy the bike you like best because they’re both good bikes.
IMHO both good bikes. Both will be good, reliable bikes with the proper care and maintenance....
As long as the '07 has a fair price and has had proper maintenance, I wouldn't flinch at the 50K miles...
You said of the '07, "I like it & pride of ownership radiates off this bike".... If that "pride of ownership" is more than cosmetic and means good maintenance too, I would go with the '07...
I'd be concerned with a 15 yo stock bike with that low of mileage. Lord knows how long it sat for one. Then was it babied, never ridden past 2500 rpm and with the stock breather contributing to a carbon issue no less.
Probably blow up first time out and actually ridden like it should be.
The 07 on the sounds just the opposite. That'd be my choice just based on that.
Then there's the '96 vs '88. In this case, there's a significant difference.
Lowv mileage isn't always a good thing.
