I'd be concerned with a 15 yo stock bike with that low of mileage. Lord knows how long it sat for one.
Probably blow up first time out and actually ridden like it should be.
.
Haha, ok yeah. A bit of an exaggeration perhaps. But it's like inheriting grandpa's old buick that's been sitting except for the 3 mile ride to church once a week for the past 15 years.
Be careful how ya drive it.
if the 06 has a carb that's the one I would go with. No tuners needed when upgraded, No computers to F up
I’m of the exact opposite opinion... to each their own, of course. I’d much rather have the EFI over a carb - I remember long ago what a PITA it was for jetting and metering, and if you’re not familiar or wrenching all the time it could be problematic.
My ‘07 was easy to tune - I’ve used three different devices and three different tuners, and they all were pretty simple (for me). Never had a problem, and haven’t had to touch it since my last upgrade to 107” more than 10 years ago. Nothing to fear with EFI, IMHO.

I'm of the same mind as you. I've had several carbed bikes and when they work, they're great, but when something goes wrong with it or when troubleshooting it can be an undertaking.
I'm partial to carbs, myself. Way easier and cheaper to tune. EFI is far more precise tho. You'll generally get 2-5hp more out of an identical EFI build.
I swore I was always going to stay carbed but...
The 6 speed and newer efi bike would walk all over the carbed 5 speed in the mountains and twisties. 6th gear is just used as OD. Or change the drive sprocket. I'm at 3000rpm at 70mph in 6th gear with a 30 tooth primary. All I do is ride the 2 lane twisties.
As for carbed, I always liked the carbed bikes too but once you go to efi there's no comparison
having had both, I still prefer the TC88 5 speed bikes. Until you ride them back to back, you’ll never notice how badly the Moco screwed up when they designed the 6 speed setup. IMHO they should have left everything alone and added a 6th gear as an overdrive. But that’s far from what they actually did.
Thought id update the thread with actual photos of the bike I ended up buying. I had put a deposit down on an 07 Road King custom with the 103 and the buyer ended up getting cold feet. It was a painful ordeal, but ill save the story for later. I quickly found another that I liked and put a deposit on it and he pulled the ad. After a 4 hour drive each way, I now have her home. 08 Road King Classic, 30K, very clean bike. recently had the 30K maintenance done and it was sold safetied. Got a brake flush and new front pads. Only aftermarket pieces I can notice are the pipes (Kerker slip ons with turndown tips) and the fork wind deflectors.
All in all, im super grateful for all the comments on here, and happy to have the bike sitting in the garage.
First thing I did when I got her home is remove the windshield and luggage rack, then went for a little joyride. Man these are big bikes compared to my Sporty. Feels amazing.
Next step is a semi-teardown for a thorough deep cleaning and paint correction.
