Ok, been awhile since ive been on here. Have an 03 FXST that died on me after driving 6 miles, put fuel in then a mile back towards home it **** off like i hit the kill switch. Got it to the side of the road and tried to restart it, wanted to pop off once or twice but that was it. Trailered it home, go to unload off of trailer and fired right up, let it idle for a minute or two then shut off again.
my thought was coil, so i took it off and ohmed it. Was 5.79 all across the board, didnt matter which probe i had where. This is a single fire coil(f and r high ten) and a connector with 3 pins. Short plug wire ohms at 2110 and long was 5.72k. I have the service book but not electrical troubling shooting guide with specs.
Put back on bike and let it idle, 10 min and she shut down, no spark.
any ideas before i throw parts at it? New agm battery at 12.8 volts. Vapor lock? Thanks!!
How did you determine that there was no spark? A coil can OHM out fine but when it gets hot it can break down. Coil is a good place to start as it is cheaper than a new ignition module.
After the bike shut off i put a spark tester on the wires with the plugs still installed. Hoping to get a new coil here in a couple days, could be the stock coil with just a few miles shy of 60k. Hope to figure this one out then i can figure out my 03 roadking, ran fine last fall now not cranking enough to start argh
my bad, not enough coffee. Must have read over that. Hopefully it is the coil, also check all your connections are tight and clean!
was gunna do that today, only got about 50 miles on this year(mother nature in Minnesota has been drunk since last year)and never had an issue till this last lil trip to put fresh gas in it.

I hear ya, we have a really nice day then a crap week it seems. Starting to stay a little warmer now at least. I have a front brake master cylinder cap that won't stop weeping. Replaced the cap twice now...frustrating
