I went ahead a bit the bullet. (I hate all you guys who knew I couldn't keep that stock exhaust very long) Hee hee.
I going with Vance & Hines Big Shots Staggerd (BSS) that will allow for the O2 sensors (keeping a closed loop system), coupled with the V&H Fuel Pak, and the Big Sucker Air Cleaner (which lets me keep my decorative anniversary football). MasterCard let me spend $1110.49 for all of that, plus 3 hours labor to let a custom shop do the work for me which gets charged later. They have certified Harley Techs so nothing messes with my factory warranty.
I am already scheduled for shop time on 8-11-07, they are ordering everything for me, and will call me if they can get it done sooner. They assurred my total satisfaction with everything and offereda solid handshake and warm smiles. Alan (the owner) called a couple of his techs out to the counter to introduce them to me. There is a lot of obvious pride there. One thing about custom bike shops in the Daytona Florida area; if you're no-good you ain't surviving around here too long. These guys came with a great reccomendation from some co-workers of mine.
Considering that their showroom was full of $30k custom choppers and S&S motors everywhere, it was easy for me to realize that "my" job was child's play for them. They claim to be competitive and better at the regular maintenance stuff too, so who knows, I might just hang there when my ride needs to go to the doctor.
I hadn't owned my '07 standard 24 hrs before I had it in the garage adding V&H big radius pipes, a PCIII and high volume a/c. The stock pipes?.........[:'(]
TheHarley dealers around here don't recommend the V&H fuel pak. They say they won't even sell it because of so many customers coming back with problems. Being a Harley noob that I am, I don't know what to do?? I just ordered some V&H big radius pipes for my '07 softail and I was hoping for a less expensive approach other than a SERT and the dyno time that they're recommending.
I think they can steer you wrong when they know you're not too up to par on the HD's...
I could be wrong though....who knows, I'm still learning
Good choice on the pipes. My '08 FB will be here in three weeks and the pipes are at the HD shopr right now waiting for the bike to arrive. I didn't even want to hear the bike with stock pipes. Enjoy
The BSS are awesome pipes man. I got them and the pur and roar is just right! I have the Q baffles in them (purchased my set used and thats what they came with). Will be getting some normal baffles soon from V&H.
PoorBoy, don't feel bad, I bought my bike bone stock with the plan of NOT upgrading anything on it. After riding it for about a month and it pulling like a 650 Yamaha, I HAD to do the upgrade. I ended up with a FatCat, TM/AT and K&N and it rides MUCH better now.
I didn't know the tuners were out for the 08's yet. When I was in the shop last week talking to some of the mechanics, they eluded that thereweren't any available then. I'll let my friends know they're out there. One just bought a 08 Aniv Deluxe and another an 08 Aniv Fat Boy. Sorry, don't remember the numbers on either of them but I BELIEVE the Deluxe is in the low 400's somewhere.
I did not order my parts through HD as I went online and bought the V&H BSL, SERT and AC and saved $201.45. HD will install the pipes, SERT, AC and dyno for $560.00.
It is being done today, so can't wait to see how it runs.
Sounds like you're trying to live up to your forum name. Seriously, you will be amazed at how much better the bike runs when all the work is done. I have the V&H BSS and am very happy with the look, sound, and performance. Only thing you might think about in the future is V&H quiet baffles. They made the sound a little more bassey and felt like they added a little more torque too. And it was less than $100. Let us know how the install goes.
