Default Using throttle lock

So I just found a large star shaped plastic spring loaded **** under my throttle grip. Please tell me about this and how it works. Also, if you guys have any recommendation for an inexpensive cruise control mod I would be interested in the different ones out there. Links? Keep riding!

You tighten it to increase the friction on your throttle which will allow you to set the throttle position to a desired RPM.

Thanks. It does not seem like a convenient place to adjust tension while driving. There must be a better alternative...

You will get used to "thumbing" the wheel for tension. It works great when you get the hang of it.

Someone I know use to use it all the time, but found himself in a situation where he had to clutch and brake hard, motor revved to the point where he thought it was going to blow up, he won't use it anymore. I make one trip a year that requires highway, and I've set it for around 60/65 mph, sit in the right lane and lean back against the GF, not the safest thing to do I know. I don't use it very often, rarely if at all.

The only thing I use the throttle lock for is keeping the revs up a bit, when warming Reaper up after staring her, and pushing in the enrichener. I wouldn't use it as a cruise control for the the reason 04FXDI mentioned above, and also because it's static, so if you go uphill, you'll slow down. and if you go downhill, you'll speed up.

Cheers!

Thanks Harfar! I just took a quick spin and your right. I really dont mind it at all. Not worth going out an buying a $40 accessory when this will do fine. I mostly wanted to use it to rest my throttle hand. Seems to want to fall asleep at higher speeds and long stretches. Thanks alot...

I bought a used 2014 Heritage Classic not long ago, and I was surprised to find they still had that thing. I always thought they were dangerous.
