question about short pipes/ popping
she runs like a bear but when i let off throttle it popps and backfires
is it costly to fix this i have zero experience with fuel injection any help would be great
You should double check that you have a good gasket seal with the pipes into the heads... and exhaust leak can lead to popping...
Your mention of "plugs" in the exhaust needs to be explained/investigated......
In 2007 Harley went exclusively to EFI with O2 sensors. No more carbs or EFI without O2 sensors.... So from the factory, your bike was running a combo open loop/closed loop tune and needs the O2 sensors for feedback in the closed loop portions of your tune to run right...
Did you have O2 sensors on the pipes you removed...??
Do you have the O2 sensors on the pipes you installed...??
Some pipes have dual O2 sensor ports so they can fit multiple model years... your new pipes COULD have the O2 sensors installed AND plugged O2 sensor ports... but I am unfamiliar with your particular model of pipes to say if they may have dual O2 ports...
If you don't have O2 sensors in your new pipes, AND you did not have a custom tune/tuner (all open loop) flashed/attached to your bike sometime in the past... then you have a tuning issue that should be addressed ASAP...
Once you determine your bike's current tune and whether or not it has the O2 sensors (if needed), then you should be able to address the decel popping with a tuner.
NOTE: The reduced back pressure of those super short pipes, can lead to a decel popping that may not be able to be completely tuned out... kind of the "nature of the beast" type thing, but it should be able to be minimized...
Just to give you an idea of what would be involved in fixing the tune to decrease decel popping (from a FuelMoto tutorial)...
If you have a PowerVision tuner, you could go through the quick tune screen and add +5 to decel fuel, along with +3 to the decel spark ... that should fix most minor decel popping..
With the super short pipes, however, you may need to get more advanced for bigger changes. That would require going into the actual AFR, VE (front & rear), and spark (front and rear) tables to change certain cells... The cells you change will vary based on whether your maps are throttle position based or MAP based... best to let an expert handles those changes...
Good luck with your diagnosis/tune adjustments...
