Default 2017 Softail Slim rear brake pads

I am definitely going to invest in a service manual for my model HD but for the most part I have been servicing my bike by watching videos and suggestions from you great folks.. I would like to know what tools I would need for the rear brake job if possible. I managed to change my front pads because I have an aftermarket HHI 6 piston caliper and they had a tutorial on how to mount the new caliper and pads but I still have the rear stock caliper on my Harley. Thank you

The video below will give you an idea of the tools and procedure to change rear brake pads. The video shows a Street Glide but your Slim shouldn't be different.

Changing the rear brake pads on a softail is very different than what it entails on a touring. The main thing is that the caliper is wedged between the tubes on the right side of the swing arm.

You mentioned getting a manual. My local HD stealership wanted 130$ for the service manual for my bike but I just got this Clymer manual the other day. It was 32$ on amazon. It’s pretty damn awesome. You won’t rebuild the cases with this but it’s great for all maintenance and torque specs that us garage wrenchers need. Comes with a dvd for color wiring schematics. You won’t be disappointed

Oh I know man my stealership was asking the same $130 for the service manual but I did find the Clymer one online but couldn't find any reviews on it.. Glad you mentioned it I appreciate it!! It will definitely work for basic maintenance so I am going to buy it for starters.

I have a 2016 Slim and if your set up is the same you will struggle to get the Mounting bolt (No1) and Slider Pin (No3) out or even loose as they are not a bolt with a hex head but have an internal Torx to unscrew it, you have no real access to get a tool in unless you remove the mufflers!
I replaced mine with a Diamond engineering pin kit which uses 12 point heads and can be accesses and removed without the mufflers coming off and also looks shiny....
