Hi,
Anyone else have an issue with the Harley Davidsion emblems coming off the sides of their fuel tank? Both of mine have come unstuck and HD wants a small fortune for new ones. I tried to reapply them with 3M doublesided automotive trim tape and it held for awhile but they are getting loose again. I might remove them completely but not sure if there will be any glue residue or any marks on the sides of the fuel tank. Any advice?
I havent had this problem with mine, was the tank repainted? or body work done - I would think depending on color there would be some color fade???? if you want them on forever..... epoxy them sob`s
No, no body work. But both sides have come loose. The bike is black and garage kept about 6000 miles on it. So no paint fade at all. Might just remove them.
The emblems on my 2014 Heritage both fell off just sitting in the garage, nothing ever even touched them, pretty clear the tape used by HD was defective. I used a 3M tape (forget which one) to put them back, one has held, the other fell off again. However, I later noticed the tape needed pressure to hold correctly and the second time I used a lot of pressure and it has held since.
EDIT: Just saw your bike pics in another thread, FWIW my emblems are the same as yours (except blue).
Its the toxic air (lol, I live right down the hiway..).. Few things, gasoline dissolves glue - Did you drip?. If the 3m stuff isnt sticking, did you clean the side of the tank to remove any residue of everything? Ill guarantee its the mating surface on the tank.
Fuel will make them fall off (don;t ask how I know) they are on the fuel tank. Mine came off my new 2015 heritage about 6 months after buying the bike. I know on a few occasions fuel did find it's way on the outside of the tank....user error. Funny story, going down the highway about 60 and I saw something out of the corner of my eye fly by, I instinctively made a grab for it, I turned to ask my wife if she saw whatever it was but she already knew what it was. In her hand was the tank emblem that she snatched out of the air! Dealer installed a new emblem under warranty.
