Default after pillion seat removal...

Since I am not planning on carrying any passengers, I removed the backrest and rear pillion seat. Underneath the pillion seat is the factory installed tape on the top of the fender along with the rear mount hole for the hold down fastener. I'd like to install a rear rack for carrying a gas jug but what does one do with that factory protective tape? I haven't yet tried to peel it all off.

I suppose a bottle of GooBeGone will be a big help.
What do most do with the rear mounting hole? Fill it with a spare bolt?

Exactly, a washer and a stainless steel bolt

On my Heritage (2016) with that same "tape", I just added a fender bib.

Leave the tape. Add a Motherwell 7" rack.

It just peels off really easily. It's not tape like your thinking, it's that semi-adhesive that comes off without leaving a sticky residue.

Use a hair drier to heat it up as you peel it off and take it slow. Then a little goo-gone to clean it up and coat of wax. That worked for me.

The factory tape on my 2002 fatboy has the clear coat on top of the tape. It is completely stock
