Thanks for the add - I'm in Wales, Looking to buy a 2013 Fatboy. It has SE Intake, SE Super Tuner Pro and V&H Twin Slash slip-ons. See pic of inside baffle - not sure whether decatted. Lots of popping on decel - can I get rid of this with the tuner? Would quieter baffle help? Like bike a lot and it runs well but could not live with the popping. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
"Decel popping is caused by the detonation of unburned fuel in the exhaust pipe. This happens with high flow exhausts that allow more fresh air to be pulled into the pipe, causing the exhaust temperature to rise and detonate any unburnt fuel"
This can be caused by the tune, and/or an exhaust/intake leak.
First, make sure you have no exhaust or intake leaks.
If you have no leaks, then read this.. it will explain some of the tuning strategies to stop decel popping
I have a Rhineheart 2 to 1 exhaust on my bike and get the pop when I let off on the throttle. Mines just 1-3 pops and doesnt bother me so I wont address it.
my softail slim pops quite a bit on deceleration after I put my cobra neighbor haters on. I did notice some improvement when I tightened the clamps a bit, I plan to use Hi-temp sealant and tighten everything over the winter and see how that works. I'm not ready to drop $4-500 on a tuner if I can help it.
If the bike has slip-on's, the the CATs are gone (within stock pipes). Guessing there's a leak somewhere (like one post indicated), or AFR's off w/ tune. IMO, remove the pipes, re-seal w/ HT silicone + new clamps & see if this does the trick. If not, then try to tune it out...good luck.
