Bought A Rocket X back in 2015 and the 2010 Fatboy sat on the front porch. Transmission bearing was going south and never got around to fixing it. Now we are in the process of rebuilding it.
Engine will be first. Going in with a S&S 110 Kit. Plus A S&S crankshaft. New injectors and throttle body.
Got at it. Removing the counter balance assembly was a joke. The six T40 torx screws were heavily set in red Loctite. Why I have no clue. Factory job. Took some work to get her apart. Three bolts came out easy. The other three took a lot of work. Drilled the heads off and removed the counter balance. Then heated bolts and removed. Following pics explains it all. Believe Harley did all the above either to screw with the home mechanic or to make it next to impossible to remove with out screwing up bottom cases. Well MR Harley guess again.
Really kind of pissed me off. Never seen such a joke of assembly. Took my time and figured out a good approach to get the job done and save the cases. Direct heat on the torx screws or bolts could have caused some major distortion on cases. Here is a clip from the manual to back up my idea that Harley is out to screw the home mechanic. Complete JOKE. Never mind this is the step before removing t40 torx screws. It is all the same.
Well today has been interesting. At 63 years old about to turn 64 in May I went on a job interview. Figured would just continue with unemployment and call it a day at 64 and collect social security. That ain't happening. Got freaking hired. A place called NORDAM hired me today. Now we are looking at 10 hour days plus Saturdays. Including A two hour ride back and forth. The interview went great much to my dismay. Now we are scheduled for a very intense weld test on various types of metal. Self pride is overpowering common sense. Aircraft has been my speciality for over 20 years plus. So much for kicking back. Upside is will have more than enough funds to rebuild the Fatboy.
Friend of mine gave me a call the other day. We talked a bit and he said why don't you apply at the Whirlpool plant in Tulsa as a Maintenance tech. Told him I have got a job as a welder at Nordam. Long story short start April 27 at Whirlpool. Now we shall most defiantly have the Money to do the Fatboy right. Very excited about this job and the opportunities. Job before Nordam got fired for wearing a mask at that job. Kind of pissed me off. They fired me for Misconduct. State of Oklahoma will not pay unemployment benefits for Misconduct . State of Oklahoma investigated and found no grounds of Misconduct. Wife wanted me to collect unemployment and retire. I wanted a job. Now I got one. Started tearing the bike down and found myself Unemployed. Very depression to start a build and find yourself with no funds. AN'T nothing now.
What a story OP! So far a good read and I look forward to seeing how it goes. Props to you for going out and still seeking employment when well, you really didn't have to. I'm in my mid 30's and I'm ready to retire now haha!
