Performance of 2007 96CI
I purchased a 96ci 2007 Heritage Softail Custom back in Feb this year.
1st thing I noticed was the brake down of the exhast note in 3rd gear at 60klm
Sounded like a rev limiter was cutting. I thought it was running on one cylinder
I have put RUSH pipes on as suggested by the dealer. Not a bad note but could be better
I was use to a 1999 Custom Softail and the way it had a noise at any speed or gear.
It has been suggested to
1/ Put a screw in the flap that causes the change this will make the Engine management light come on and so Itake it to the dealer to tap in and make the change in the ECU to correct the EM light. or the Alternative is to put a Screamin Eagle EFI Race tuner on it andthey can stop that flap from cutting in.
How can I make my Harley not change exhaust note like a HONDA and sound like a harley should at no matter what gear or speed.
Should I change the Pipes also
Suggestions please
Look forward to someones reply soon

I hated the way my 07 fatboy sound with the stock pipes. I installed a set of Vance and Hines big shot, fuel pack and big sucker air cleaner. Best money I ever spent. Runs great and cooler. And it sounds like a Harley. Stock pipes and air cleaner are very restrected due to EPA requirments.

I can tell fromyour email address you reside in Australia and, as such, you have the international model Harley that comes with the an exhaust flap on the rear exhaust. As you have discovered the exhaust flap only works in certain gears, at certain speeds and depends on throttle openings - and causes the exhaust to sound really weird when it is operating, as if it is running on one cylinder. I believe there is a guy on ebay who sells a plug that 'bridges' out the electrical operation of the flap and causes the computer to think it is still operating when it is not. If you have a search on this site you should be able to find an article on this. Any Harley mechanic in Australia should be able to assist you as well.
I have Rush slipons on my Custom and think they sound good.
