Default Battery repeatedly dying

Hi all..What I've got going on is odd. I kept getting a check engine light that would go out after 30-40 seconds, code was for overcharging. So, i replaced the regulator with one from DB Electrical. Since I've replaced it, my first battery died, replaced it with a warranty replacement, that one died, replaced it with a Yuasa battery, and same thing...just not keeping enough juice to start the bike. All of his after sitting, while on a battery tender. Charging voltage is good, around 14 volts when running, and with a meter hooked up, only about 10-15 mA draw. I NEVER had a problem starting when a tender was hooked up until I replaced the regulator. I just don't understand how it could be the cause if there's no excessive draw. Any ideas? I'm thinking about just coming off the wallet and getting the HD regulator and seeing what happens. The regulator is the only change I made before this started happening.

It is always best to diagnose the problem instead of blindly replacing parts. Doing the latter usually ends up throwing good money after bad.

The first thing you need to do is check your cables. Make sure they are tight at the battery, starter and frame ground. Inspect them for breaks in the insulation that may cause a short to ground. Next, test your charging system. The electrical subforum has two 'Stickys' at the top explaining how to do that. I put the links below.

Charging system testing 2

Let us know how things are going.

Just an update. Not long after my original post, I bought a factory voltage regulator and put it on. Had no issue. Now, bike has sat over about 6 weeks due to my having surgery, been on a tender, and fired right up yesterday. So, I'm going to guess that the cheapo regulator was to blame. Guess it was cheap for a reason
