bouncing tac
'04 Deuce, stock
Bike runs great
a year or two ago I installed a Barron tac.
Instructions were excellent (every wire color with and W/O color stripe was there)
I used butt connectors instead of the wire slit clips they provide.
start it and everything works as it should.
Take it for a ride, and the tac needle bounces around and not consistent at all.
google search shows Barron needle bounce isn't uncommon.
Soldering the wires can help they say....so I removed the butt connectors, soldered and shrink wrapped
It made no difference
here's the kicker I hope someone can offer guidance on.
When I hammer it at or near WOT thru the gears, the tac needle is steady and right for the full range.
as soon as I back out and cruise (and/or my "normal" riding style) it bounces and isn't consistent again
could something in the bike electronics when at or near WOT change the juice going to the tac?
or other??
Thanks

Based on what you have told us... it sure seems like the Tac itself (something internal) is the problem.... it's possible there is an issue with the signals from the bike, but I would think that would show up somewhere else too, not just in the Tac's performance...
You've connected the wires as directed, two different ways, I'd be confident the Tac is getting the proper, uninterrupted signal(s) from the bike...
The rest is up to the Tac + the Tac has acted the same + you've read this is a common problem with that Tac = the Tac has an issue... It's either cheap/weak design of components (thus it's reputation for a bouncing needle) or a faulty connection internal to the Tac...
Make sure you have a good ground. Been told Baron tachs are ground sensitive. I used the frame close to the neck for a ground ground and it works great for me. But that doesn't rule out you having a problem with yours.

yep, thanks
google mentioned that too.
I had a good frame ground, but after reading, I removed it and direct connected to the battery ground .
No change
