Default Handlebar Clamp

This is the riser and clamp that is on my 97 Heritage classic.

I'm going to be putting 18 or 20" ape hangers on it. I will be switching to the stiff bushings.

Do I need to change the riser or clamp or will this hold the apes in place fine as is?

Thanks guys

With apes that high make sure you tighten that clamp down good. You can also do other things to help keep the bars from moving. Are the bars you're going with knurled? If not there are ways to do it to increase grab and reduce slippage, also maybe some sleeve retainer from loctite i've heard works well, sand paper in the clamps...there are alot of methods people use. Also there is a top clamp of the same size that you have that has set screws you can turn to bite into the bars

. I have 14's and I was experiencing slippage but since hammering the bolts down it's been ok for now but the other methods I mentioned are going to be what I try if I end up having more issues down the road. Whit bars that high its a massive amount of leverage, if your pulling on them due to the height or for riding conditions they can slip easier that you may think.

Thanks for the help. Yeah the bars I'm looking at do look like they have 2 knurled rings in the center.

Are they the same diameter or the same in the middle where they clamp?
I just put 1 1\4s on and they're not the 1" where they clamp so I needed different risers.

Cool bars..I'd try the sleeve retainer....a little dab on each riser when you put them on....just make sure they're where you want them before you do it, then wait like 24 hours after applying and locking the bars down.

I have Carlini 1 1/2" bars and 1 1/2" at the clamping area. I think it looks much cleaner to have risers for the size of the bars. These bars were 18" and had no problems at all keeping them in place.
